Zamira Powers - Bikini Competitor

Zamira: I started working out mostly as a vegan and cardio in November of 2015. When I was researching different workout methods I ran across bikini competitions and seen the competitors. They were beautiful and at that time I decided to change my workout and diet system to see how I can gain muscles, get stronger and to experiment on myself. Within months I started noticing a significant change and entered myself in the National Physique Committee (NPC) Governors Cup (March 2016). I was hooked! My first competition and I placed 4th. This motivated me and I started to believe "I can do this!". Then I entered the NGA All Natural Ms. California and placed 1st in my category.

Three years ago I moved to USA and started to gain weight. I was eating out often and not counting calories or macronutrients. I started to notice that I didn't like what I was seeing in the mirror. That is when I decided to workout.....mostly cardio. I have always been and active person as dance instructor but this time dancing wasn't enough. I became a vegan and running 10 miles a day. This diet helped me to lose weight from 22% body fat to 15% in 6 months. I was happy until my friends and family told me that I lost too much weight. My diet consisted of all raw vegan meals and nothing cooked. I since changed my diet to high protein low carbs and high fat diet. Since my change I never felt hungry. I eat a lot of veggies (that I love) and cook for myself all the time. Pre competition I do carb cycling and eat a healthy balance of protein, carb and fat to give me energy. My calorie off season is 1500 pre and 2 weeks prior to competition I consume 1200 calories.

I lift and Hit 3 times a week. I usually start with pilates or yoga every morning. My diet is high carb in the morning to allow me to workout heavy and dinner is protein with greens.

Since I was 15 I have always been in front of cameras and on stage but doing sports and dance has helped me to build self confidence.
My last all natural competition was surprising for me. It was my 2nd competition and I took 1st place in my category. I was so proud of this because it took hard work and dedication. The event was amazing, the girls were very friendly and I realized it wasn't just about competition but enjoying the moment and living a healthy life style.

Future plans: Definitely work harder and get my pro card. My plans are to motivate people to be active and eat real food. Life is about love, eat, workout and pray when you combine all of this it becomes true happiness.
