Sheila Youngblood - Bikini Competitor

My name is Sheila Youngblood I am 41 soon to be 42, I am a wife, a mom of four and a grandma of 2and this is my story. June 12th 2011 my life changed I never went to the gym, but after this day I did. I was going through a divorce with my first marriage before all of this happened on June 12th 2011 I was hit head on by a drunk driver, the only thing I had was my car to start my life over with my kids and it was gone in a flash. I was banged up but my life was saved back then I didn't understand why but as I look back I realized God gave me a second chance and this is why. I was dating another man who happens to be my husband now (my second marriage) he saved my life, he let me stay with him until I was able to get my own place.

This man that I was only dating for 2 short months took care of me because I couldn't hardly walk, he took the glass out of my hair and said I will take care of you and promise you that your life is worth it and well he did just that, he was a personal trainer, got me working out slowly, got my physical part started but mentally I was drained I didn't know how I was going to get my life back no money, no car, nothing to start my life again with myself and my children, I thought my life would be better off without me but deep down I knew I was given a second chance I just needed time to get myself better first, 2 months later I had my own apartment wasn't much but to me it was everything, my kids was staying with my ex husband at first while I was going through this whole thing which was the hardest on me but within the short 2 months had my apartment, my kids, my life back.

My first grandchild was born, my grandson, I started going to the gym with my boyfriend (James) who took care of me from the beginning, we just started training and I brought up the idea of him doing competitions because he was already in excellent shape, he said he never did but always wanted to but no one believed in him and I told him I did so we agreed we would do them together. We did our first show in 2013 where we both placed very well bringing home trophies we knew then this is something we wanted to do, he believed in me so I knew I had to be there for him too.

In 2014 we started once again training, we had some injuries that put us back but this is when things started to change the things that made us both stronger not only physically but mentally. We did another competition in June 2014 which I didn't place because of a surgery I had just months before but nothing was going to stop me from getting on stage, was I ready? No but I did what I wanted and step on stage, James who is my husband now did win first place.

After competition was over we lost a family member who was my youngest daughter's dad. We started training again for Nationals in July but recently having a death hurt you both mentally, we didn't place at Nationals but once again our lives changed. During that year in Sept. My dad was in the hospital very sick, a week later my husband's uncle passed away and that same night my sister almost died from an accidental overdose, mentally we both didn't know how we was going to pull it through but once again we did. Nov 2014 my husband competed and once again placed. Mentally wore down but we made it through another year.

2015 our lives changed for the hardest. March 6th my second grandchild was born my granddaughter, we were so happy and thought our lives was finally getting better. End of May my daughter her boyfriend and my two grandchildren was in a wreck but Grace of God was only banged up, 2 weeks later my granddaughter passed away at the age of 3 months from S.I.D.S. the worst possible to go through, I had so much anger, hurt and took everything that was built up at the gym, my husband and I wasn't ready mentally but in July we stepped on stage once again, we didn't place but to us it wasn't about a placing no one knew 3 weeks before that we lost our granddaughter.

Two months later we had more deaths I lost 2 of my aunts, my daughter lost her uncle, my mom lost 2 more relatives, my other daughter lost a cousin, once again we stepped on stage in Sept where this time I took first place and my husband placed as well, End of Oct my dad started getting sick again with his cancer with everything still being mentally drained my sister this time was wanting to do her first competition which I trained her for the Nov show I placed two times, she didn't but it wasn't about me placing I didn't care I was doing this for her to help her change her life and to make our dad proud one last time and we did just that.

On Dec 19th 2015 one week before Christmas our dad passed away. It's been a rough few months trying to train but my husband and I did the April show 2016 where we both did very well, I am down from another injury but he has been training for the Nationals in July, besides all the emotions that had occurred we had injuries, we had close calls and we had so many deaths I recently just lost my grandmother, so I'm taking time off.

Diet and Training

I workout 4 days on and one day off etc.
My first day I do Glutes -warmup then I do 3 sets of 15 reps on leg press.
Second day I do upper body with chest, bi's and tri's start out with chest press 3 sets of 15 reps with abs I do between 200 to 400 abs and 30 mins of cardio.
Third day Quads start out with Hacksquats- 4 sets of 20 reps.
Fourth Day I do upper body with shoulders and back I start out with bend over rows using the 45 barbell and do 3 sets of 15 reps with abs again 200 to 400 and 30 mins of cardio. I normally try and switch it up and do my abs usually 2 days on one day off.
Every now and then I will also switch up my workouts so I don't get bored with my training and also so my body doesn't get use to the same routine. I start my training for my competitions 12 to 16 weeks before.

My diet consists of:
Meal one: Breakfast 4 eggwhites, 2 yolks, with a slice of wheat toast Preworkout drink Protein drink with one scoop of whey protein with 16.oz of water after workout.
Meal 2: 6 oz of chicken with 1/2 cup of rice with 1/2 cup of broccoli.
Meal 3: 4 oz. of beef with 6 asparagus spears.
Meal 4: one tablespoon of Peanut Butter no bread with one scoop of protein with 16 oz of water.
Meal 5: 6oz.of chicken with 2 cups of salad, with one cup of green beans Meal 6: 4 oz of chicken with 1/2 cup of green beans Also drink 1 and 1/2 gallon of H2O a day.

My workouts are generally 2 hours long which includes cardio

People tell me I inspire them not to give up hope and ask how am I so strong? God gave me a second chance at life, I haven't had the time to grieve but maybe I am doing what I'm supposed to be doing and that is helping others that don't know how, this is my story that led me to the journey I am at now.

* My husband and I are also on a competition team called Team Elite over Yorkville, Ohio.
