Nancy Slifco - IFBB Bikini Pro

A new IFBB Bikini Pro, 2019 NPC Teen Collegiate & Masters National Championships

My journey competing started last year 7/10/18. I always enjoyed working out for my health. Last year I went through some tough personal issues and at the time I needed to find something to focus on hence what better then to train for a show. There were many that thought I was to old start competing which only fueled my fire more. One year seven days and 5 shows later I earned my PRO card not once but twice at Master Nationals in Pittsburgh at 53 years old this year. I was managed to win 50+ A class as well thee 45+ B class.

Preparing for a show is completely different than just working out and eating clean. I learned that early on when I started this journey. For me I actually hired myself a coach @kenkbj @_jax_fitness (Instagram) IFBB Pro who is very familiar with the entire process. His primary focus was on my training and nutrition. What worked for me best was MACRO tracking and as I got closer to show time 12 weeks out my coach gave me a specific diet to eat which consisted of 6 to 7 meals a day. My training consisted of a split schedule which had heavy emphasis on legs and glutes, Monday ,Wednesday and Fridays were leg days as well Friday split was shoulders and hamstrings. Tuesday and Thursday were back and biceps , chest and triceps. In addition I included steady state cardio 40 minutes a day , 6 days a week.

As we progressed closer and closer to the show he would make necessary changes as he saw fit, to both my diet and training regimen which ultimately played a huge factor in me winning my PRO Card. Everyone's body reacts differently to training and the competition diet so me personally, I would recommend hiring a trained professional who has competed and has the necessary background and skill to provide the best for you and your body structure.

The training and diet when competing for me personally was the easiest part of competing. Don't get me wrong it takes a huge commitment to stay on track and with the plan. You have to be very mind strong to not deviate from the plan. You have to make sacrifices and not let the people around you sabotage your hard work. Not all of your friends, family etc. will understand the sacrifice. More importantly is finding the strength and confidence to perform your routine on stage in a tiny bikini and feel confident. I found it as critical to hire myself a posing coach @theposingfairy theemariarobles (Insagram) to help me with a routine so I was more comfortable on stage. In addition I also had a wonderful young lady @shawnscouture (Instagram) who i let change my entire look on stage. I left it all in her hands from my suit, suit color , hair and makeup. I didn't worry about a thing excdept preparing for my show. She brought my entire package together show day. I felt like a princess when she was done with my hair and makeup. Once I put my suit on she made and it sparkled like no other this calm and confidence came over me and I just knew all I needed to do was hit my posses and I would do well.

I will be making my PRO debut in Michigan on September 28th 2019 my home state. Initially that was not the plan but being that it is in Michigan my coach thought it would be kind of neat to do this show. My plans as of right now after this show is to take some time off and give my body a break and rebuild , refuel my system. I will most definitely follow a reverse diet from my coach as well continue to train.
