Poppy Hudson - Figure Competitor
My first show will be coming up April 23rd, 2017. I made the decision to compete a few years ago when I fell in love with fitness. I took a while to get around to competing as I wanted to ensure I was totally ready for it mentally and physically! This year I knew I was ready so I started prep beginning of January.
Diet and Training
The foods I am eating haven't changed massively but the portion sizes are a lot smaller than when I was bulking. My protein has also dropped considerably from bulking but still managed to grow throughout the first half of prep. Carb cycling is what has worked best for me to shift the body fat compared to anything else.
Being on extremely low carbs didn't work for me and my body just slowly gave up trying to lose weight. Giving my body high carb days kicked it back into losing weight again.
During the first half of prep I stuck to heavy weight training to try grow as much as I could whilst cutting. Then I started to add in daily cardio to help burn fat. And then in the last few weeks training has changed from heavy to light weight with more reps to help burn fat as well as maintain muscle mass.
Triple trouble thursdays?? my bedroom has some pretty great lighting?? ?????????????? This should be my last full body post until my show now, I want to have the element of surprise ???? 3.5 weeks to go, this is where all the big changes will happen! HARD WORK, HUNGER and MOOD SWINGS is what these next few weeks will consist off, so apologies in advance! I've never been petite so it's been hard for me to see myself competing along side these girls, but I've worked hard and no matter how I place, it'll be the proudest moment of my life to know I put everything into achieving my goals!?? ?????????????? Self-confidence: I'm still working on my confidence, but as my body gets ready for the show I know I look and feel better. Posing around people has made me feel more comfortable about people watching me.
I work in a bodybuilding gym so my daily life I'm surrounded by the same kind of people and socialise with people who are going through the same experience as me. Being so focused on my prep I don't tend to socialise outside of work or the gym which has taken a toll on my relationships with friends and family but the people who support me understand the importance of this and how I need to stay completely focused. Having a strong support system has helped me through massively!
Every now and then I won't see any positive changes in my physique, which is all in my head. Prep has been a huge mental struggle for me. The diet and training I have been completely fine with but when it comes to the mental side of prep, sometimes it's hard to stay positive. Usually these down days only last a day or two and then my motivation is back on track. It's helped my grow as a person and helped me believe in myself. As I become closer to show day I can see how far I've come since I started and that's the main thing. I've stopped comparing myself to other athletes and become truest focused on myself and my own journey. My self confidence is ten times higher and I now know I can overcome any challenge thrown at me, whether it's during prep or in life. This has taught me not even on the down and hard day, that I can never give up. And now coming to the end it's all been worth it, no matter how I place in my competition.
After competing this year I want to hopefully build myself up to be able to compete in figure category as that is the top goal. But for now I'm using all my prep and comps as experience to become the best I can be.
