I have always struggled with obesity since childhood. I stepped on the scales one day and realised I was 300lbs and I knew I had to do something about it.
That was the day I started my weight loss journey, my goal was to lose enough weight and build a strong body that would allow me to step on stage and compete in figure.
I had a long way to go because I didn't have a clue about nutrition or fitness.
I had drive and determination though, so I got to work reading and learning everything I could get my hands on. I would watch YouTube videos on weightlifting and technique for hours.
Diet: I always watch what I use as fuel for my body. being a cross between an endomorph and mesomorph I put muscle on easy but I also easily gain fat. prepping meals in advance all year round is what's helped me stay on track because it helps me stay consistent fuelling my body with clean food and nutrients that it needs to perform, whether that be building muscle or cutting down body fat to lean out. I mostly rely on counting macros, carb cycling and eating clean as that works best for me.
The types of foods I usually eat - Leafy green vegetables, beetroot, broccoli, oats, peanut butter, sweet potato, rice, pulses, whole eggs and egg whites, tuna, white fish and chicken, good fats like Butter and nuts.
Off-season I tend eat a bit more carbs but still stick to eating clean.
I haven't really tried any competition diets before, I believe if you learn and understand how your body works and what it needs, you will have the tools to be successful. Hard work, being consistent and tracking macros are the way to go.
Weight loss journey from 300lbs down to 159 at the moment ! Starting to learn posing ?? not graceful at all but I'll get there ???? transformation category at pure elite. Training: At the moment I'm getting ready for competition, so there's lots of fasted cardio, HITT sessions, lifting sessions, and working for time doing circuits to help burn extra fat.
I have found shocking my body when I hit a plateau by changing up my training helps me quite a bit to get things rolling again. My favourite type of training is always compound, I love squats, deadlifts and weighted walking lunges. I also enjoy free weights, training till failure, drop sets and pyramid sets and burn out sets.
My goal is to just be better than I was the day before. And to inspire and help as many people as I can.
All my food prep and macros are done every Sunday and made up to last the week. I take meals with me on the go and plan ahead, this keeps me on track and just makes life a little bit easier and easy to fit in with training.
Self confidence: For me this is a difficult one since I was once severely over weight all my life and at my heaviest weight I was 300lbs +, I had to start with what was on the inside the better I did and the more I achieved my confidence grew. My transformation was a long one filled with blood sweat and tears there were Days I wanted to give up but I kept fighting for my dreams and goals, I was fighting for my health and life.
Going from morbidly obese to healthy was an emotional journey and even though I believe there's always room for improvement I can honestly say I am happy and confident now because I won the battle it takes a strong person to achieve such a transformation.
Bodybuilding is my passion and I definitely plan on growing bigger, getting better and stronger by putting in the hard work. As of May 2017 I will be a qualified personal trainer. But for now I am just enjoying the training and looking forward to where ever that may take me.
