Donna Walker - UFE Elite Fitness Model

I started competing in 2015. My journey to competition was a long one. I lost 70lbs 10 years ago, by following the Eat Clean Diet by Tosca Reno. I loved how simple she made nutrition. Her writing style made sense to me, and I was very inspired by her. I started lifting and reading oxygen magazine and everything she wrote. I started seeing huge changes in my body and became a NASM Certified Personal Trainer. I always admired the strong women on the covers and pages of Oxygen. I found them to be role models— I wanted to compete, but I didn’t have the support of those around me. Big personal changes in 2015 lead me to see that I could be stronger, prep, and compete. So I did. In that process, I found so much more than I ever imagined. UFE Fury 2015 I took 4th in Fitness Model, I was hungry for more and kept at it… at Fury in 2016 I took 2nd Place in Fitness Model, earning Elite Fitness Model. I decided to compete again in October at UFE Mayhem 2016 and won 3rd Place in Glamour, also earning Elite in that field.

I eat well year round. I love good food. I don’t eat a lot of processed food. I prefer to eat whole foods, closer to natural form. I would describe my diet as high protein, high fat, low carb. I eat to fuel my body. I find a 40/40/20 macros split to be most effective for me. I do enjoy a bit of red wine off season, and a few select treats.

Failed diet: Deprivation - if I cut too many calories, on top of having no energy and being terribly cranky, I don’t see any results. You have to meet your baseline for intake— too little doesn’t mean a greater loss in weight in the right way— I want to maintain muscle and burn fat. It requires slow changes and being mindful of what I put into my body in the right amounts.

I teach group exercise and personal train for a living…. which might make you think it's easier for me. It’s not. Before or after classes/sessions I am lifting or doing HIIT or steady state cardio, my workouts are often at 4am or between classes, or late at night. I always prep my food on Sundays— Meal prep takes the guess work out. I pack my sixpack bag and I am set.

I believe the process of physically strengthening builds a stronger mindset at the same time. The balance of the two makes a competitor. It comes from within— YOU ARE WHO YOU ARE MEANT TO BE, IT”S SEEING IT FOR YOURSELF.

At Fury 2016 and really at every UFE event I have been a part of the organizers and athletes are so kind, gracious, and truly inspiring. I love the sense of community, being a part of a fitness family. Supporting each other, respecting and appreciating the dedication. Backstage you will always hear athletes complimenting each other, sharing tips, helping each other. It’s an amazing experience.

I plan to compete at UFE Fury for my PRO card in both Fitness Model and Glamour in 2017. I would also like to compete in other shows in the spring, and I am hoping to be on the PRO stage in November at the UFE World Championships.
